Roberto graduated from the University of Victoria Faculty of Law in 2008, and articled in Victoria at the criminal defence firm of Marshall Allen and Massey. Soon after, he worked at the Office of the Ombudsperson where he gained great insight and experience in complaints against public administrative agencies. From there, he worked at the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, which is what has given him a thorough insight in conducting Reviews of drinking and driving prohibitions, 24 Hour Prohibitions, Vehicle Impoundments and ICBC penalties.
Since his call to the Bar, Roberto has gained valuable and thorough experience in the courtroom. He has appeared in both Provincial and Supreme Court. He has conducted many different types of court procedures, ranging from vacating arrest warrants to full multiple day trials. He also has experience in Mediations, Pre-trial Conferences and Family Case Conferences.
Roberto is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Victoria Bar Association. He is the recipient of two prestigious awards from the University of Victoria: The Humanitarian Award and The Victoria Bar Association and Founders Committee Graduation Award, for his academic standing and also his contribution to the community.
Outside of work, Roberto continues to be very involved in the community. He volunteers as a coach for several youth soccer teams in town; volunteers in providing legal information to clients of the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Center (including his participation in the Citizenship 101 course offered to members of our community who are applying to become Canadian citizens) and continues to provide assistance to other local organizations.
